Top 7 Factors When Choosing a Nursing Home

Frequently Asked Questions

What services and care options does American Health Communities offer?
We offer nursing services and Physical, Occupational, Speech, and Respiratory Therapy. For more information, visit our Services page.
How can I schedule a tour to come see an AHC location?

We’d love to see you in one of our AHC communities! Please call the location most convenient to you and set up an appointment with the administrator.

What qualifications and certifications do your staff members have?

All our nurses are licensed RNs, LPNs, or Certified Nursing Assistants. Our administrators also hold a license. All activities directors and dietary managers are certified as well. All other staff receive on the job training.

How do you ensure the safety and security of patients?

AHC communities are our resident’s homes, so we value their privacy and security to the highest extent. We check on residents routinely and have locked doors to ensure awareness for those that enter to visit. If residents do not want certain visitors, we honor that choice. We do monthly safety rounds, assess equipment, and complete safety drills to ensure staff’s response in an emergency is accurate and timely. We have an emergency preparedness manual and staff are educated during their orientation and on an annual basis.

Can residents personalize their living spaces?

Yes, we encourage our residents to make their rooms their own through personalization and decor! We do have to monitor space as to not infringe on roommate’s rights and avoid safety hazards.

What types of activities and programs do you offer residents?

Our communities usually have two group activities a day based on the resident’s preferences. Activities interviews are conducted at admission for each resident, and our staff makes every attempt to accommodate personalized requests.

Are family members allowed to visit and participate in resident activities?

Yes! We encourage family members to be as engaged as they can with their loved ones in our communities. We hope to see you soon!

How do you address dietary restrictions and accommodate special diets?

Our dietary department asks for allergies, likes and dislikes upon admission and incorporated that into the menu and meal planning to accommodate as needed. Our goal is to always provide tasty and nutritious meals that make our residents happy.

Do you offer specialized care for residents with specific conditions, such as wounds or dementia?

All of our communities offer wounds care services! We are offering an even more advanced Wound Collaboration Program with Rehab America, our in-house therapy team, that is at two-thirds of our communities at this point. All communities care for residents with dementia and all staff receive specialized dementia training during orientation and annually.

What are the visiting hours for family and friends?

Resident’s family and friends are encouraged to visit anytime, as long as it does not infringe on the rights of any roommate or the well-being of the resident.

How do you handle resident transportation needs, such as medical appointments?

Social services will assist in setting up transportation for all appointments. A few communities have a van and provide transportation. However, if one of our AHC communities set up transportation, an escort may still be requested to accompany the patient.

What types of insurance do you accept?

We accept traditional Medicare, Medicaid, Private Pay, Hospice, and many Medicare Advantage Plans.
